And so today, to cap off the week with another excursion, we visited the Tang Paradise theme park here in Xi’an. Bella and I have been to a couple of these things throughout China; romantic recreations of China’s past with parks, lakes with koi and actors and dancers doing performances.
It was really nice. Clean, well-kempt and most importantly; almost no visitors. Chinese people only seem to go out during the weekends or national holidays and today was neither. We had the chance to walk around the whole park, enjoy the scenery and sit near the lake and look at the fish.
There was a bit of a special event going on, though; some kind of photography thing with pictures of places all over China and a panel of judges picking the best one. We walked into it by accident and when it had all just ended. Journalists were swarming the judges for questions and a picture. We took the chance to observe some of the entries.
Many were really nice, but I was kind of unhappy with the obvious alterations. When did that become okay; to take a picture, photoshop it and then present it as the real thing? Some stuff was colored in to make it stand out more, other stuff was taken out and colors were changed or made brighter. That kind of stuff defeats the charm of landscape photography for me.
