Tests are paramount in the Chinese student’s life and they’re just as important to the parent, for whom this one moment is the confirmation of all the time and energy they put in their progeny.
Which is a longwinded way to say that my English class today was canceled. The man I teach called me to say that his daughter had a test to get into high school and that he had to accompany her. Apparently that meant he had to stand outside the halls for the entire two or three hours of the test.
